The Shoe Storage Cubby - Not Your Usual Cubby Hole

The first thing you need to do to correct the problem of shoes all over the house is to stop taking them off and leaving them lying around until you wear them again. You need to have a proper place to store them, and have it located near where you take them off so you will be motivated to put them away once you remove them. There are all sorts of different shoe organizers, including the shoe storage cubby.

The shoe storage cubby or the shoe chest is a great way to store your shoes. They are similar to the cubby holes you had in kindergarten to put your stuff in, but with anywhere from 12 to 36 slots where you can store your shoes. They don't take up a ton of space, and since they are usually less than a foot deep you can fit them into your closet at the back. The shoe storage cubby is open in the front, and the shoe chest is similar to a cubby but with a clear vinyl cover you can zip closed to keep the dust off your shoes while still allowing you to see them. Usually the shoe storage cubby is best for the shoes that you wear all the time since this would keep them from getting dusty.

There are also a number of types of shoe racks, which you normally store in your closet. Many styles are expandable or stackable so that you can add the number of components you need to fit the shoes you have in the space you have available. Racks generally need to be assembled, and can hold anywhere from 20 to 50 pairs of shoes.

Another choice to consider is the shoe trolleys that roll under your bed. You can fit up to 12 pairs of shoes on them, and they roll out of sight under the bed when you are not using them. Since there isn't any type of covering you should use this system for shoes you wear often so they don't get dusty.

For those that have more vertical space than anything else, a shoe tree could be a good option. This is a twirling rack that goes from the floor to the ceiling and holds as many as 36 pairs of shoes. Usually there is extra weight at the bottom to make them more stable, and the top has a place to keep belts, socks, or other small items. These require assembly as well.

The shoe cabinet is another option. This looks a bit like a bedside chest, but the front swings open to show your shoe rack. Small cabinets usually hold around six pairs, and larger cabinets can hold up to 36 pairs of shoes.
